API Strategy & Practice Chicago

The API Strategy & Practice Conference (APIStrat) focuses on what works for API creators and consumers alike by bringing industry leaders together in one forum. This is an inclusive, community-supported conference series co-organized by 3scale and API Evangelist. Now in its second year, the fourth conference will be held in September 2014 in Chicago will focus on the potential of APIs, best practices, and how to craft a successful API strategy.

One of APIStrat’s main goals is to enable as many people as possible to share and benefit from practical API experiences. The three tracks encompass three major audiences in the space: API providers, developers, and those having conversations around specific industries.

The speaker lineup as a whole includes a huge variety of companies and organizations of all different sizes — Ford, Walgreens, Sears, Divvy, Keen.IO, SwiftIQ, Electric Imp, Google, and WordPress, among others. You can check out the full schedule on the APIStrat website.

We look forward to highlighting some of the speakers here on APIUX and many more in-depth conversations around this event! It should be an action-packed three days. You can register here.

About the tracks

  • The API Providers track covers design, architecture, internal APIs, marketing, and testing.
  • The API By Industry track addresses the specific challenges of media, data, Internet of Things, civic, and enterprise APIs.
  • The Developer track, co-organized with WIP, was created to cater to the growing numbers of developers attending past editions of the conference in San Francisco, New York, and Amsterdam. Learn how to wrangle some of the best APIs out there for your apps and learn best practice in API driven App Development.

Depending on which track you’re interested in, you can register for the full conference and workshops, or go for the special $99 Developer Ticket and Speed Hack Challenge.

Workshops include Introduction to APIs, Six Tactics For Building Successful APIs, Crash Course- Practical API Management, Building Plugins for SoapUI Pro, and Civic APIs. The Speed Hack Challenge will pit participating teams of developers against a set of tough, strictly time-limited coding challenges to compete for $2000 in prizes. Participating APIs Twilio API, Twitter API, Context.io API, Respoke API, Traitify API, and APItools will give participants a coding challenge to solve in 30 minutes or less.
